Most of Nevada lies within the Great Basin, a plateau in the Rocky Mountain Highlands. The climate varies topography from dry sage covered deserts to snow-capped mountains. The altitude and the dryness and clearness of the air cause a rapid loss of heat at night, so that even after the hottest days, the nights may be cool.
