New Brunswick, Canada Licenses and Fees

New Brunswick, Canada Regulations

New Brunswick is one of the eastern provinces of Canada, lying to the east of Maine and Quebec. The Bay of Fundy, famed for its high tides, separates it from Nova Scotia on the south; the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, Northumberland Strait, and Prince Edward Island are east. Quebec and Chaleur Bay are north. The greatest extent from north to south is about 215 miles, and from east to west, a little less. The area is over 27,000 square miles, which is about 5,000 square miles less than that of its neighbor, Maine. The province has about 550 miles of coast line, which contains a number of good harbors.

The eastern part of New Brunswick, bordering on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, is low, and the coast is marshy; but the southern coast, bordering on the Bay of Fundy, is high and contains numerous bluffs. A branch of the Appalachian highlands entering the province from Quebec at the northwest corner extends southeasterly to the middle of the province. These highlands form the source of many rivers and their tributaries which flow into the coast waters on the northern, eastern, and southern sides of the province. These highlands are of but low elevation, nowhere attaining a height of more than 1500 feet, with the exception of a few separate peaks which rise from 2,000 to 2,500 feet. In general, the surface of the province is that of an undulating plain.

The St. John River is the principal river, draining nearly half of New Brunswick on the west. It rises in Maine, forms for 80 miles the boundary, and after entering the province, narrows and leaps over a precipice 80 feet high. This leap is known as the Grand Falls.

In the lower course of the river and in some of its tributaries are lake expansions. After receiving these tributaries, the river narrows to a gorge of less than 500 feet, through which it empties into St. John harbor. Since at low tide the water level of the harbor is 12 to 14 feet lower than that of the river there is a fall, but as the tide rises in the harbor there is a short period of level water between the harbor and the river; then, as the tide continues to rise 10 to 12 feet higher, the fall is from the harbor to the river. The falls are known as “Reversing Falls”. This phenomenon is so rare that there is probably no other like it in the world.

New Brunswick is subject to severe winters and hot summers; although along the coast the changes are not as extreme as in the interior. During the winter the thermometer occasionally falls as low as 30 degrees below zero, and in the hottest summer months it sometimes rises as high as 95 degrees. The coast regions are subject to fogs during portions of the year, but on the whole the climate is healthful, and the extremes of heat and cold cause little suffering, especially in the interior, because of the dryness of the atmosphere. The annual rainfall is a little over forty inches.

New Brunswick is a unique place to hunt and should be experienced at least once in a hunter’s life. The hunting guides and outfitters will be able to give advice on the better places to hunt in New Brunswick, Canada.
