United States Weather

Mississippi, once popularly called “The Bayou State”, now known as “The Magnolia State” is a great place for a hunting trip. From old river basins, rolling prairies, and low level valleys this state offers much to hunters. Long summers and short winters it is a great location for a hunter, but still has something to offer those winter months. With over 47,000 square miles the Mississippi hunting guides and outfitters listed should be able to help you plan your next trip.

Mississippi has a semi-tropical intense heat which would otherwise prevail is tempered in the south by Gulf breezes. The thermometer seldom reaches 100 degrees, while winters are short and mild, the means temperature being about 45 degrees. The northern part of the state does have cooler weather in the winter months. The average rainfall is about fifty inches for the entire state, but it is much greater in the southern than in the northern part, due to the Gulf of Mexico.

A low watershed, extending north and south, divides the state into two river basins, the eastern, which is drained into the Gulf of Mexico, and the western, drained into the Mississippi River. The state offers much to a hunter and should be taken advantage of on your next trip.

Each guide and outfitter can give you additional information about specific small game and big game animals hunting in their area, along with what the weather is for their part of the state.
