Yukon, Canada is in the northwestern corner of the country, and is bounded on the west and southwest by Alaska, on the east by the Northwest Territory, on the south by British Columbia, and on the north by the Beaufort Sea and the Arctic Ocean. It has a total area of over 200,000 square miles, of which more than 1,700 square miles are water. The Yukon is an elevated plateau crossed by high mountain ranges and cut by many streams and rivers. The Rockies, the Mackenzie Mountains to the east, and the St. Elias range, including Mount Logan {19,850 feet” in the southwest corner of the province, make the region a rugged wilderness.

Yukon winters are long and cold, the summers brief and hot. Rainfall is not heavy, but it is enough for the crops. During the warm months black-flies make like harder for the inhabitants of the area.

The chief rivers are the Peel, which empties into the Mackenzie River at the delta, and the Yukon, with its many tributaries. The Yukon River is one of the main channels of traffic. The Yukon Territory occupies the northern portion of a large geologic {and physiographic} province known as the Cordillera, Yukon is composed of a diverse array of rock types that record more than a billion years of geological history.

Yukon has a back to nature feel, since there are only a small number of communities throughout the province compared to others in the country. But the lack of towns and cities gives more area to hunt and should be experienced at least once in a hunter’s life. The hunting guides and outfitters will be able to give advice on the better places to hunt in Yukon, Canada.
