United States Weather

Maine, the “Pine Tree State”, has some of the most attractive scenery east of the Mississippi River, because of the magnificent white pines which once dominated its forests. Moderate summers and cold winters will be a factor on what you hunt. The state has over 33,000 square miles of land and should offer many places to hunt. Your Maine hunting guides or outfitters will have more information about the different areas to hunt.

Because Maine is so far north and the cold Labrador Current drifts along it shore, it has long, cold winters with occasional subzero temperatures. Summers are moderate, but even in the south the farmer has not more than five months between frosts to raise his crops. The precipitation from rain and snow, totals forty-two inches, and is favorably distributed.

Maine is located farther northeast than any other state. This “Outpost State” touches on only one sister state – New Hampshire, to the southwest. The Canadian provinces of Quebec bound it on the northwest and New Brunswick on the northeast and east. The Atlantic skirts the irregular southern coast, which because of its many bays and inlets has a total length of nearly 2,400 miles. The state offers much to a hunter and should be taken advantage of on your next trip.

Each guide and outfitter can give you additional information about specific small game and big game animals hunting in their area, along with what the weather is for their part of the state.
