Massachusetts has long, cold winters, with periods of subzero weather, and summers in which the temperature may rise to above 90 degrees. The greatest extremes of heat and cold occur in the west, but humidity in the east makes summer’s warmth more “sticky” and winter’s cold more penetrating. Cape Cod and the large islands off the southern cast enjoy a milder climate. Precipitation from rain and snow averages 40 inches a year.

Massachusetts is bounded by New Hampshire and Vermont on the north, Yew York on the west, and Connecticut and Rhode Island on the south. On the east and south it borders on the Atlantic Ocean. Its southeastern section extends into the Atlantic like a beckoning arm. The state may be divided topographically into four sections: the Berkshire Hills area, the Connecticut Valley, the Plateau region, and the Coastal plain. This great place offers much to a hunter and should be taken advantage of on your next trip.
