The surface of most of Iowa consists of slightly undulating land leveled by the glaciers, which invaded the state during the Pleistocene Period. These glaciers left in their wake the deep, rich dark-brown fertile soil. Deposits of stone, sand, and gravel left by the glaciers relieve the level monotony of the prairie. Numerous rivers and streams are across the state.

The Iowa climate has a wide range of temperature. In July and August the thermometer may register 100 degrees or more, and in midwinter, when a cold front frequently sweeps down from Canada, the temperature may drop to 25 degrees below zero. In the north the snowfall is often so heavy that the moisture lingers in the soil throughout the planting period. Precipitation from rain and snow is 32 inches. It offers much to a hunter and should be taken advantage of on your next trip.
