North Carolina is naturally divided into three surface regions; the coastal plain, the Piedmont plateau and the highlands. The eastern portion of the state consists in many places of lagoons and swamps, of which Pamlico and Albemarle sounds are the most prominent. These shallow indentations are separated from the sea by a low bar, which extends along the entire coast.

The Piedmont region is rugged and hilly in the western part, but quite level or undulating in the eastern. North Carolina lies on the same parallel of latitude as the central Mediterranean basin; its climate is modified by the proximity of the ocean on the east and the great mountain system on the west. The mean temperature of the state is 59 degrees. The rainfall is fairly uniformly distributed throughout the year, the average precipitation being fifty inches. The state offers much to a hunter and should be taken advantage of on your next trip.
